Hillgrove Resources (ASX:HGO) is an Australian copper producer based in South Australia’s Adelaide Hills, just 55km from the Adelaide CBD. Operating since 2005, Hillgrove transitioned from open-pit to underground copper production in 2024 and operates a well-capitalised 3-3.6Mtpa processing plant.
In addition to the Kanmantoo underground operation, Hillgrove holds extensive exploration tenure across South-Eastern South Australia and is actively advancing high-potential copper targets.

About the Role
The Environmental Officer supports Hillgrove’s commitment to responsible mining and environmental excellence. This role ensures that site activities comply with all environmental approvals, licences, obligations and internal management standards, while driving continual improvement and supporting the business’s sustainability objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Implementing, maintaining, and undertaking environmental compliance monitoring programs, initiatives, and activities
- Conduct regular monitoring of dust, air, surface water, groundwater, flora, fauna, and rehabilitation sites to ensure compliance with regulatory and Program for Environment Protection and Rehabilitation (PEPR) requirements
- Preparing, managing, and reviewing reports and documentation to ensure accurate and up-to-date records
- Identify environmental hazards, assess associated risks, and implement corrective solutions. Supporting stakeholder and community engagement by contributing to sustainability initiatives, liaising with site personnel, contractors, and consultants, building positive relationships with landholders and community groups, and representing Hillgrove Resources.
- Driving continuous improvement by staying informed of changes in environmental legislation, technology, and industry best practice, identifying opportunities for improvement, and collaborating with the Sustainability team
About you
You’re a passionate, hands-on environmental professional who enjoys working in the field and with people. With your practical experience in environmental management, you know how to make an impact and aren’t afraid to get your boots dirty,.
You’re deeply knowledgeable about environmental systems - soil, water, air, and ecosystems, and you’re familiar with South Australian environmental laws, mining approvals, and regulatory requirements. You’re organised and detail-oriented, comfortable collecting and analysing data, and turning it into clear, accurate reports.
You thrive when working with others and are great at building positive relationships with stakeholders and community groups. Whether it's liaising with contractors, coordinating monitoring programs, or engaging with local communities, you’ve got it covered. You're also comfortable with Microsoft Office and have strong communication skills, making it easy to work across different teams and share important information clearly
Essential requirements
- Tertiary qualification in environmental science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Current Class C driver’s licence and comfortable with fieldwork in varied conditions.
- Strong understanding of environmental systems, including soil, water, air, and ecosystems.
- Knowledge of South Australian environmental legislation, mining approvals, and regulatory reporting.
- Experienced in collecting, analysing, and reporting environmental data.
- Skilled in coordinating contractors, consultants, and monitoring programs to ensure compliance.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and confident in written and verbal communication across teams.
- Experience with Mining and Rehabilitation Compliance Reports (MARCR) and Program for Environment Protection and Rehabilitation (PEPR) reporting will be considered an advantage.
- Environmental monitoring, and practical experience in mine site rehabilitation or Significant Environmental Benefit (SEB) programs is highly regarded.
- Knowledge of Adelaide Hills ecology is desirable.
